Old Hollywood Glamour: Choose Your Favorite

As my wedding approaches (less than 5 months away!) I keep thinking about my own wedding look. The style of our wedding is 'Old Hollywood Glamour' with a modern twist ;) I have had 100's of brides come to me that want an Old Hollywood look and now that it's my turn, it is sooo hard to choose!! So, I am going to post some looks and ask you, my lovely readers your opinion. Please pick your favorite look! And if you are searching for the perfect look for your day, 'Old Hollywood' is always glamorous and classic. You don't have to go all out, you can just tie in your favorite elements!

Your Wedding Hair Timeline

As you are counting down to the big day, don't forget to start taking care of your locks early so whatever style you end up choosing looks absolutely fabulous.


12 Weeks Before The Wedding
Start eating right and to increase your exercise. I'm not saying that you have to train like you’re running a marathon, but just a 20 minute walk is enough to get the blood pumping and oxygen flowing to the right places (including your scalp!). It's also a great way to decrease all the wedding stress.


8 Weeks Before The Wedding
Start seeing a professional: Visiting a professional hairdresser will keep your hair in top shape and give it the best chance of looking healthy and neat on your wedding day. Now is the time to start having regular deep conditioning salon treatments.

3 Weeks Before The Wedding
Have your last haircut 3 weeks before the big day so that your hair will settle.

2 Weeks Before The Wedding
Color your hair at least two weeks before the event so that it will look fresh, but not freshly done.


4 Days Before the Wedding
Have your last deep conditioning treatment.

1 Day Before The Wedding
Wash your hair with a mild and cleansing shampoo.

Relax! All of your hard work and beauty treatments should have left you with fabulous hair which will now be teased, curled, pinned and sprayed – but it’ll all be worth it!

500 Days of Summer Engagement Shoot

   Julianne and Bryan are getting married on July 24th at Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. However, they also had an engagement shoot which I thought was so creative and clever, that I just had to share. Their theme was 500 Days of Summer (I love that movie) and I think their photographer did a great job capturing it! For the makeup and hair we agreed that a 60's look would work great. I airbrushed Julianne's skin to make it look absolutely flawless. Did an elongated black eyeliner with lots of individual eyelashes. Lots of blush and a pretty peach lip gloss. For the hair, I added lots of volume on the crown and put big curls in Julianne's hair. Lastly, I ran my fingers through the hair to create a more natural look.

A Step by Step Makeup Guide

{Step 1}

Begin any makeup application with moisturized skin and conditioned lips (find a facial moisturizer and a lip balm you love and use them religiously). If you overdo it, simply blot the skin with tissue.

{Step 2}

Review your face -- do you need more concealer or foundation? The true test of a color match comes when you start blending it out and the foundation dissapears. Apply foundation where you need to it most and concealer under the eyes, around the nostrils, and on any blemishes or discolorations.

{Step 3}

Use powder to take away any shine but leave a healthy sheen -- just a bit on a large powder brush, swept around your entire face.

{Step 4}

If you are going to use dark eyeshadow colors, use the "drop cloth" trick of depositing extra powder under the eyes to catch any eye makeup fallout.

{Step 5}

On to the eyes: Pick the shades of color you want to use and decide how dark you want to go. Then, use an allover brush to apply a beige color all over lids (from lash line to browbone). Then, use a blending brush to apply a medium shade in the crease. And last, use a smaller ‘crease’ brush to apply a dark color either against the lash line or in the crease. Note: As long as the shadow you use is a powder, you can go back and add more -- even after it's set with translucent powder -- to get to the level of intensity you want. Then dust with translucent powder again.

{Step 6}

Curl the lashes and apply mascara, 2 coats on top and 1 on bottom.

{Step 7}

Now the brows. Groom them into shape with a spoolie brush. Any thin areas? Fill in with a brow pencil (taupe works best), using little feather-like strokes. Then, brush through with the spoolie again to soften and blend. Finally, a coat of brow gel keeps everything in place. Now that the eyes are done, brush away excess loose powder (applied in step #4) from under the eyes.

{Step 8}

Apply a soft pink or a peach powder blush with a blush brush on the apples of your cheeks, then dust cheeks with powder to blend all the edges.

{Step 9}

Choose a lip color. Remember if your eyes are dramatic, you want to keep the lips soft and natural. If you want definition, choose a natural colored lip liner and follow your natural lip line. Then, fill in the rest of the lips and finish it off          with the lipstick or gloss.

I'm Engaged!!!

Hello my lovely brides!
I want to share with you the big news! I am engaged! Wohooo!
I always loved talking to brides and hearing everything they go through to plan a wedding. However, now I can really relate to all of my brides so much more, being one myself :)
I figure since I work with so many brides, it would be kinda fun to write about my own experience planning a wedding and finding great things I can share with all of you!
So far, we are just in the beginning stages of planning a wedding... still looking for a venue. We want something outdoorsy and beautiful. We are planning on getting married in September, so the weather should be nice. So far, we have looked at a dozen of venues and even though there have been several that we fell in love with... nothing has been 'the one' yet. However, I know we will find the perfect one soon.

So far, I have loved the Hartley Botanica in Somis; the Los Angeles Arboretum in Arcadia; Arbor Terrace in Fallbrook, Maravilla Gardens in  Camarillo.  But, unfortunately none of these venues worked for us for some reason or another.
However, we are going to check out Malibou Lake and Los Angeles River Center, which I am very excited about.
Ladies, if you have any other suggestions for gorgeous outdoor venues that are affordable please let me know!!!!

Why Get a Hotel? Get Ready at our Beautiful Studio!

Usually brides book hotel rooms to get ready for their big day and even though it can be convenient, some hotels don't always make for nice 'getting ready' shots. Of course, I understand if you don't feel like driving around town and be in your robe all day... However, if you don't mind the drive and want to save some $$ you can come to us and we promise to make it fun!

Don't Do Anything Drastic To Your Hair Before Your Wedding!

Have you ever dreamed of sporting an electric blue Mohawk, or trading your flowing tresses for a cute pixie haircut? That's fine, but trying to live out your follicular fantasies a month before your wedding is a recipe for disaster. Ideally you'll plan your wedding 'do the minute you get engaged. If you have a blond bob and you long for a vibrant red up do for the special day, you'll need to start growing your hair out and shopping that perfect shade of ginger. Or if you want to walk down the aisle wearing a short look, you should get it cut immediately to allow yourself time to restore your locks should you end up regretting your new style.

Hopefully by the time you find your dress and headpiece, should you choose to wear one, get yourself to your stylist to experiment and find the perfect coif to complete your look. Make sure this is the same person who will design your hair the day you actually get hitched. Once you discover the magic look, snap a photo or two so your stylist can remember exactly what you both came up with. Make your appointment for your wedding day hair as far in advance as possible. Don't forget that you'll need an additional appointment to have your color done one week before you get married so you'll have time to get it corrected if needed and also so the skin around your hairline is no longer stained from the dye.

Once you're married you can finally get that bleached-out mullet you've been longing for, but until then, it's better to play it safe!

The Highlight of Your Wedding Day

Have you ever noticed how some celebrities positively glow in photographs? That's because their makeup artists know a little trick many folks are not privy to. Highlighter! No, not the fluorescent felt-tip pen you used to mark up your college textbooks. The highlighter in question is a light-reflecting powder, cream, or liquid utilized towards the end of your makeup routine to enhance certain areas of your face. Mind you I did not say glitter! Unless you're a fairy, you have no business putting glitter on your face. Illumination is the look you want to achieve.

Highlighters come in a variety of colors, but it's best to choose one that's neutral and close to your skin tone. You don't want to look like a clown for your nuptials, unless of course you're having a circus-themed wedding! To brighten up your peepers, sweep the highlighter over your brow bone and inner corners of your eyes. Next, apply it from the bridge to the tip of your nose, and at the top of your cheekbones above your blush. Blend with a brush. For luscious lips, apply the highlighter to the Cupid's bow before you sweep on your lipstick. You'll be amazed at how gorgeous and ravishing this will make your mouth look!

As with any hair or makeup routine pertaining to your wedding day, do a trial run with the highlighter several weeks before the big event to ensure you like the color and application, and don't have a reaction to the newest cosmetic in your beauty arsenal. Get illuminated!

Falsies

...as in false eyelashes! What better time to glam up your eyes than on your wedding day? Very few women sport false eyelashes on a regular basis, which makes wearing them to get hitched just that more special. If you've been blessed with naturally long lush lashes, then congratulations, you can skip this step. But for most of us, the daily abuse of mascara, and mascara removal, can leave our lashes looking a little less than lovely. Pumping up your peepers with falsies will cause your man to swoon at the altar. And who doesn't want to make her guy breathless on the big day?

There are several types of lashes at your disposal. Some are applied to the lash line in clusters for maximum control of placement and effect. Others are strips that create a more uniform appearance. To see if you like the way you look in these lash enhancers, test drive a variety of them several weeks before your nuptials. Follow the packages' instructions for gluing your lashes on, then once the glue has dried, curl your natural lashes and the new additions together to blend them. Save mascara and eyeliner application until after you have your falsies right where you want them. Once you single out a favorite brand, length, and style of lashes, bring a package of them with you when you go for the pre-wedding trial run with your makeup artist. This will allow your pro to know exactly how you want your lashes to look when having your face made up on your wedding day.

It's the truth! Falsies can make you look fabulous!
