How to Make Your Cream Eyeshadow Stay

I love the look of cream eyeshadows! It creates a sexy, dewy look but unfortunately they usually don't stay as well as powders. Well, I am here to tell you how to get the dewy look without ending up with goo in your crease half way through the day!
First of all, you have to use a primer (I love the Urban Decay one). This will create a base for the cream to adhere to. However, if you want to avoid that extra step (because face it who has all the time) I would suggest getting a cream shadow that dries to a powder (I love the MAC paints or the Cover Girl intense shadow blast). For bolder color, layer the cream shadow and use a powder eyeshadow to set it. This will give you all day wear and the shimmery shadows still give you the dewy look!

First of all, she is a beautiful girl... so it wasn't hard enhancing her natural beauty. But, I have to admit that I am very proud of the hair and makeup I did on her. New Years Eve Makeup Look #4

The Look: Aubergine Eyes
I love these plum eyes on Rachel Evan Wood! If you have green eyes, the purple shadow is a must. It will make your eyes pop and look more greener than EVER!
Get the Look:
FACE: Apply your favorite tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation all over the face to ensure an even coverage. Use concealer for extra coverage under the eyes and if you have any blemishes or discoloration.
EYES: Apply a primer all over the lid and then follow it up with using a light pink from lash line to brow bone. Then, use a shimmery cranberry or plum color all over your lid (don't go above your brow bone). Then, with a dark purple or black contour the crease and on the bottom lash line. Last, use a black or a plum eyeliner (pencil or gel) inside the waterline and apply mascara.
CHEEKS: Use a very soft pink blush on the apples of the cheeks
LIPS: Use a neutral pink gloss

The Look: Peachy Glow and Lush Lashes

You Don't Need a lot of makeup to look glamorous! Using soft pastels like peaches and pinks creates a soft, romantic look that still looks beautiful and fresh.

Get the Look:

FACE: Use a tinted moisturizer or a liquid foundation all over the face. Then, dab concealer under eyes and if you have blemishes or discoloration.

EYES: Use a primer on the eyes and then a soft peach or pink eyeshadow all over the lid. Then, use a black gel eyeliner with a really pointy brush to create a line along the top lash line. Use strip lashes for this look. I always cut strip lashes in 2 parts before applying them to ensure them to last longer. I like to use DUO glue. Then apply mascara to top lashes.
CHEEKS: Use a soft peach blush (cream if you are dry and powder if you are oily).
FINISHING TOUCH: Add a soft peach lipgloss for extra some shine!

Dark Neutrals

If you are going to wear a metallic dress, I would recommend going for similar, but warmer tones. You definitely don't want to match your dress exactly, but adding a warm bronzy palette can compliment your outfit nicely. On this picture, Kerry Washington's eyes are played up with dark browns and bronzes, while the cheeks and lips are light peach. I love this look! It works really nicely on all skintones.

Shiny Red Lips
I love the look of shiny red lips. It's very glamorous and bold. Make sure if you use red lipstick you choose a blue tone red if you are blonde and orange tone red if you are a brunette. Also, make sure to keep it light on the eyes. Just some black eyeliner will do!

How to Enhance Your Eyes if You Wear Glasses

When you have lenses that cover up your eyes, you want to intensify their definition. I recommend swiping a black or dark brown eyeliner along the upper lashes to make them pop. You can use a pencil or my favorite is gel eyeliner. Then use a beige pencil inside your bottom, inner rims to brighten and conceal any redness. A dab of pale, shimmery highlighter on brow bones and inner eye corners will make your eyes pop even more! If your frames are a bright, vibrant color I would suggest sticking with neutral tones of shadows.

Winter Skincare Habits to Rethink

1. Taking Hot Long Baths
Taking a hot bath on a cold winter day might feel good, but it's actually making your skin drier. Steam from the hot water opens up your pores which allows the moisture and natural oils to escape. To prevent this, I recommend showering in lukewarm water and apply lotion to damp skin right after you get out of the shower. If you must take a bath, stay in the water only for 10 minutes and use bath oil instead of bubble bath.
2. You Moisturize Your Face and Body but Not Your Cuticles and Nails
You might not realize, but in the winter your cuticles and nails loose moisture just like your skin. If you don't hydrate them daily, nails can split and crack becoming more vulnerable to bacteria and fungus. Try to remember to apply lotion to your hands after you wash them and stay away from alcohol-heavy hand sanitizers. At bedtime, rub a thick cream on cuticles and feet.
3. Your Skin Looks Rough and Flaky so you Exfoliate
If your skin is dry and flaky, exfoliating it will actually irritate it more. Instead, use a creamy cleanser and body wash to gently dissolve dirt. If you have rough patches on your face, avoid lotions that contain fragrances (they can irritate skin) and chemical exfoliants (like glycolics and retinols). Choose creams that have gentle ingredients like chamomile. For your body, use lotions that contain humectants (like hyaluronic acid) and emollients (I love shea butter) draws moisture to your skin and locks it.

Holiday Makeup Tips and Tricks

It seems like every week there's a holiday party I hear about and I know this is the time we want to look our best. So, to help you look your absolute best I am writing about some holiday tips and tricks that I think might help.

First of all, let's start with the hottest holiday trends this holiday season:
Two looks are classic and hot right now: The smokey, shimmery eye paired with light lips and the deep red lips balanced with a light eye. Shimmer is in this year, as it was last year, and it's the perfect festive look as long as you don't overload on the shimmer.

Here's a few tips:

Primers are a must this season for both face and eye makeup. Primers go on before foundation or eye shadow and keep makeup in place for hours. They also fill in fine lines and skin imperfections so your tinted moisturizer goes on smoothly. Also this year, skip the foundation and try a tinted moisturizer which is much more light and gives a dewy finish, which is very sexy. Laura Mercier makes a near perfect primer and tinted moisturizer, though I've found the color tone I bought in summer is already too dark for winter!

Going from day to evening:
Transitioning from work to evening is actually pretty easy if you prep yourself. Apply tinted moisturizer (or foundation), mascara and gloss or lipstick before work. After work, cover any blemishes by patting in a concealer (never rub). Then follow these steps for either the smokey eye look or the deep red look:

For the Smokey Eye
1. Apply your eye makeup: Eyeliner on both top and bottom lashes (be sure to 'smudge it,' dark eyeliner will age you), a eye shadow primer (I like MAC Paints), and a shimmery shadow on the lid. Don't apply any more mascara unless your earlier application has rubbed completely off, otherwise you risk getting clumpy lashes.
2. Dab a shimmery blush to cheeks (I love Bobbi Brown's or Stila creamy blushes which also works as lipstick).
3. Powder your face lightly.

4. Apply a light lipstick or gloss.

For Deep Red Lips
1. Cover unsightly veins on eyelids with a matte eyeshadow in a color that's as close as your skin tone as possible (such as beige).
2. Apply a very light shimmery blush on cheeks.
3. Line lips and fill in with your favorite red color.
4. Powder face.

What different kinds of makeup should a woman wear to a chatty cocktail party, as opposed to a high-class late-night party?
For the high-class party: Apply more shimmer or go deeper with the red lipstick.

Remember this rule:
The number 1 rule of thumb: Never play up BOTH the eyes and the mouth.

To make your makeup last:
Primer is key here. Women should prime their skin before applying foundation or tinted moisturizer (again, Laura Mercier has a great primer) and they should prime their eyes before applying shadow. Also, carry oil-blotting papers if you tend to get greasy, holiday food can be very rich. MAC has some great ones. It's better to blot the oil than to keep applying powder, which can give you a cake-y appearance.

And if you want to transform your hairstyle from office conservative to party glam, here are some suggestions:

1. For straight, medium-length hair, I suggest washing hair and blowing it 2/3rds dry in the morning, then twisting it into a low bun (a few unkept strands are very sexy). Undo hair before the party -- you'll have gorgeous waves. Spray with a purse-size hair spray. You could also do the opposite: Blow hair dry and wear it down during the day, then twist it into a sophisticated bun for the evening. A few ends popping out is very in right now.

2. For curly, long-ish hair, an 'unkept updo' is very sexy for parties. Let hair airdry in the morning, twisting ringlets in place with fingers. After work, pull hair up in a modern version of a French twist or messy bun. Another option is to pull hair on the sides back and clip in place with a fancy clip. This gives shows off your long curly locks, but accentuates the face as well.

3. For short hair, curl hair in the morning then freshen curls before the evening with a curling iron. Spray hair before you go out. You can do this in your office bathroom. Don't have access to a curling iron? Add body by back combing and hold it in place with a bit of hairspray. You can also accessorize with a headband.

Getting the Perfect Eyebrows

Eyebrows are to the face what a frame is to a picture. If your brows are shaped correctly, they can really transform your whole face, so make sure that you take care of them right. Here are some steps to ensure you find and maintain the perfect shape for you!

1. Get Waxed
Have your eyebrows professionally waxed before going it alone with tweezers so you'll have the right shape from the start. Plus, waxing is a good way to get a very clean look since it takes away even the peach fuzz. Remember not to remove hairs from the ends, you want length. Keep your eyebrows full overall, it gives you a more youthful look.

2. Fill In
Once the hairs have regrown in 3 or 4 weeks, you can maintain the shape yourself. First, fill them in to accentuate the shape and then tweeze around. Comb upward with a spoolie brush (mascara wand) and cut any hairs that are extra on top. If you have any holes in your brows, use a pencil to stroke in any hairs and if they are just not dense, color them in with powder so the brows look thicker.

3. Tweeze Carefully
Starting at the bottom inner corner, remove hairs one hair at a time, pulling in the direction of the hair growth. Move across the brow, following the shape of the line. Never pull out clumps or clusters (that's how you make holes).

4. Groom

Brush on a brow gel or a clear mascara to finish. This is like putting on hairspray; it keeps the strands in place. You can add some highlighter under the arch of the brow to accentuate the shape. However, if you get your eyebrows waxed, do not put makeup on the area for at least a few hours - you don't want to clog that area.

You just got a new edgy look, now what? How do you style it and still look glam? Here are some styling techniques. On damp hair spritz the roots lightly with a volumizing spray. Then, use a round brush to blow-dry hair up and away from the face. As a finishing touch, use a styling wax by warming it in your palms and applying it over the tips of the hair for definition and hold. Make sure you don't use too much product or it will weigh down the hair. Spray some hairspray if you choose and voila!!!

Julianne was one of my favorite brides! She got married at Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes and her wedding was absolutely beautiful. We decided to put half of her hair up with very natural waves so it would fit the beach setting. For her makeup, I was determined to bring out her gorgeous eyes. So, I used lots of soft shimmers and 'smoked them out at the crease. I used a soft pink lipcolor that ended up matching her bouquet! How pretty. Hello all of my lovely ladies. I have been MIA for a while now. And as you might know (or not) I got married myself! So, if you are a bride to be or have been a bride you know how much time it takes to plan a wedding. So, I wish I had more time to blog but honestly between my wedding and all of the weddings I have the opportunity to be a part of... there was not much time to write.
I got married on September 24th, 2011 at Malibou Lake in Agoura Hills. It was truly the BEST day of my life. It was absolutely perfect. Since I get to be a part of so many weddings I have always thought about and imagined what my wedding will be like. I thought about all of the details and about how I am going to feel on the day. Well, I am so glad to say that not only every details turned out beautiful, I was so happy and excited and actually very calm. After talking to my friends and family, everyone said a different version of the same thing, 'There was so much love and joy'. I feel so blessed that all of our closest family and friends were a part of this day.
I was a bit nervous about my hair and makeup, since I am a perfectionist myself... but I can say with confidence that I had the absolute perfect look I could have imagined. On of our very own Yana Beauty Studio Artists, Davee did my hair and the makeup artist that trained me, Vera did my makeup. I was very pleased with the outcome and
best of all, everything stayed on ALL NIGHT (thank God for airbrush!)

Working on hundreds of weddings, I've seen it all kinds of beauty bummers that happen. Whether it's chipped nail polish or bad tan lines, it might happen to YOU! So, read on and make sure you are prepared for any beauty mishaps and you stay looking picture perfect on your wedding day.

1. While perusing the pictures from the wedding shower, you noticed your makeup had faded before dessert was served! You didn't break a sweat at the shower, so how is your makeup going to last through the reception?

Fix it: When you're primping before your ceremony, choose a makeup primer that doesn't contain any oil or silicone. It'll act as a sponge for your foundation, keeping it in place and preventing it from seeping into or slipping off of your skin all day long.

2. Running from appointment to appointment has made you realize that your current deodorant isn't cutting it.

Fix it: Don't head out to the salon for a touch-up just yet. Grab a color glaze product closest to your natural shade, and use it once or twice before the wedding. It'll spruce up your color to new levels and add eye-catching shine.

7. The extra cups of coffee you've needed to get you through the planning phase haven't been so kind to your pearly whites.

8. You've avoided a haircut because you're growing out your hair for the big day, but now you've got some serious split ends.

Fix it: Unless your skin is dry, use an antibacterial soap and keep an oil-free acne spray on hand. Used together, they'll clear up breakouts and prevent future ones.

10. You purposely scheduled a trim two weeks before your wedding day so your hair would have time to regrow in case the "trim" turned into a "hack." Now there's no way you'll have enough hair for that romantic updo you picked out months ago!

Fix it: Forget what you've heard about extensions. There are tons of natural-looking ones out there. Go to the pros or try a DIY style. Search local beauty supply stores to find the right color and length for you.

11. All of those salsa lessons you've had for your upbeat first dance have taken their toll on your feet. With all those calluses your tootsies aren't at all in shape for open-toe shoes.

Fix it: Before you get out of the shower, rub a coarse exfoliant onto your feet to remove dead skin; then rinse it off. After showering, apply a heavy lotion. Slip on thick cotton socks so you can walk around instead of staying off your feet while the moisturizer soaks in.

12. You've finally talked yourself into a Brazilian bikini wax (how brave!), but the thought of ingrown hairs is almost scarier than the wax being ripped off.

Fix it: Right after waxing, soften and straighten hair follicles with a product that will also control excess oil to eliminate clogged pores. Bonus: This will lighten any dark spots you had from past ingrowns.

13. Three days out in the sun during your bachelorette party in Puerto Rico has left a sunburn outline of your suit straps, and your gown is (of course, sigh) strapless.

Fix it: Take ibuprofen to minimize the inflammation. Your skin won't look as puffy. Then, pick up a light green-tinted moisturizer. The color will neutralize the redness. On wedding day, ask your makeup artist to use a some smudge proof makeup to cover it.

14. You didn't get enough water or sleep during your weekend favor-assembling session, and your skin is beyond washed-out.

15. One glass of red wine too many during your rehearsal dinner has left your eyes looking tired, red and puffy.

When To Throw Away Your Products

Do you have products in your drawers that have been there for years? Well, read this article immediately. You might be slathering on bacteria on your face without knowing.

Nail Polish: 1 year

The Reason: with proper storage, expect nail polish to last about a year. When you see the color fading or separating... it's time to toss it. And if the polish is not going on smoothly, that is a sign to throw it away.

Mascara: 3 months

The Reason: mascara dries out and becomes a breeding ground for bacteria which can cause eye infections. And if you get an eye infection, throw away your mascara immediately so the infection does not spread.

Sunscreen: 1 year

The Reason: Even though sunscreen usually has an expiration date, it is usually good for 1 year. If you see the cream separating, smelling funky or changing color it is time to toss.

Face Creams and Lotions: 1 year

Start eating right and to increase your exercise. I'm not saying that you have to train like you’re running a marathon, but just a 20 minute walk is enough to get the blood pumping and oxygen flowing to the right places (including your scalp!). It's also a great way to decrease all the wedding stress.

8 Weeks Before The Wedding
Start seeing a professional: Visiting a professional hairdresser will keep your hair in top shape and give it the best chance of looking healthy and neat on your wedding day. Now is the time to start having regular deep conditioning salon treatments.

3 Weeks Before The Wedding
Have your last haircut 3 weeks before the big day so that your hair will settle.

2 Weeks Before The Wedding
Color your hair at least two weeks before the event so that it will look fresh, but not freshly done.

500 Days of Summer Engagement Shoot

Julianne and Bryan are getting married on July 24th at Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. However, they also had an engagement shoot which I thought was so creative and clever, that I just had to share. Their theme was 500 Days of Summer (I love that movie) and I think their photographer did a great job capturing it! For the makeup and hair we agreed that a 60's look would work great. I airbrushed Julianne's skin to make it look absolutely flawless. Did an elongated black eyeliner with lots of individual eyelashes. Lots of blush and a pretty peach lip gloss. For the hair, I added lots of volume on the crown and put big curls in Julianne's hair. Lastly, I ran my fingers through the hair to create a more natural look.

A Step by Step Makeup Guide

{Step 1}

Begin any makeup application with moisturized skin and conditioned lips (find a facial moisturizer and a lip balm you love and use them religiously). If you overdo it, simply blot the skin with tissue.

{Step 2}

Review your face -- do you need more concealer or foundation? The true test of a color match comes when you start blending it out and the foundation dissapears. Apply foundation where you need to it most and concealer under the eyes, around the nostrils, and on any blemishes or discolorations.

{Step 3}

Use powder to take away any shine but leave a healthy sheen -- just a bit on a large powder brush, swept around your entire face.

{Step 4}

If you are going to use dark eyeshadow colors, use the "drop cloth" trick of depositing extra powder under the eyes to catch any eye makeup fallout.

{Step 5}

On to the eyes: Pick the shades of color you want to use and decide how dark you want to go. Then, use an allover brush to apply a beige color all over lids (from lash line to browbone). Then, use a blending brush to apply a medium shade in the crease. And last, use a smaller ‘crease’ brush to apply a dark color either against the lash line or in the crease. Note: As long as the shadow you use is a powder, you can go back and add more -- even after it's set with translucent powder -- to get to the level of intensity you want. Then dust with translucent powder again.

{Step 6}

Curl the lashes and apply mascara, 2 coats on top and 1 on bottom.

{Step 7}

Now the brows. Groom them into shape with a spoolie brush. Any thin areas? Fill in with a brow pencil (taupe works best), using little feather-like strokes. Then, brush through with the spoolie again to soften and blend. Finally, a coat of brow gel keeps everything in place. Now that the eyes are done, brush away excess loose powder (applied in step #4) from under the eyes.

{Step 8}

Apply a soft pink or a peach powder blush with a blush brush on the apples of your cheeks, then dust cheeks with powder to blend all the edges.

{Step 9}

Choose a lip color. Remember if your eyes are dramatic, you want to keep the lips soft and natural. If you want definition, choose a natural colored lip liner and follow your natural lip line. Then, fill in the rest of the lips and finish it off with the lipstick or gloss.

Hello my lovely brides!
I want to share with you the big news! I am engaged! Wohooo!
I always loved talking to brides and hearing everything they go through to plan a wedding. However, now I can really relate to all of my brides so much more, being one myself :)
I figure since I work with so many brides, it would be kinda fun to write about my own experience planning a wedding and finding great things I can share with all of you!
So far, we are just in the beginning stages of planning a wedding... still looking for a venue. We want something outdoorsy and beautiful. We are planning on getting married in September, so the weather should be nice. So far, we have looked at a dozen of venues and even though there have been several that we fell in love with... nothing has been 'the one' yet. However, I know we will find the perfect one soon.

So far, I have loved the Hartley Botanica in Somis; the Los Angeles Arboretum in Arcadia; Arbor Terrace in Fallbrook, Maravilla Gardens in Camarillo. But, unfortunately none of these venues worked for us for some reason or another.
However, we are going to check out Malibou Lake and Los Angeles River Center, which I am very excited about.
Ladies, if you have any other suggestions for gorgeous outdoor venues that are affordable please let me know!!!!

Don't Do Anything Drastic To Your Hair Before Your Wedding!

Have you ever dreamed of sporting an electric blue Mohawk, or trading your flowing tresses for a cute pixie haircut? That's fine, but trying to live out your follicular fantasies a month before your wedding is a recipe for disaster. Ideally you'll plan your wedding 'do the minute you get engaged. If you have a blond bob and you long for a vibrant red up do for the special day, you'll need to start growing your hair out and shopping that perfect shade of ginger. Or if you want to walk down the aisle wearing a short look, you should get it cut immediately to allow yourself time to restore your locks should you end up regretting your new style.

Hopefully by the time you find your dress and headpiece, should you choose to wear one, get yourself to your stylist to experiment and find the perfect coif to complete your look. Make sure this is the same person who will design your hair the day you actually get hitched. Once you discover the magic look, snap a photo or two so your stylist can remember exactly what you both came up with. Make your appointment for your wedding day hair as far in advance as possible. Don't forget that you'll need an additional appointment to have your color done one week before you get married so you'll have time to get it corrected if needed and also so the skin around your hairline is no longer stained from the dye.

Once you're married you can finally get that bleached-out mullet you've been longing for, but until then, it's better to play it safe!

The Highlight of Your Wedding Day

Have you ever noticed how some celebrities positively glow in photographs? That's because their makeup artists know a little trick many folks are not privy to. Highlighter! No, not the fluorescent felt-tip pen you used to mark up your college textbooks. The highlighter in question is a light-reflecting powder, cream, or liquid utilized towards the end of your makeup routine to enhance certain areas of your face. Mind you I did not say glitter! Unless you're a fairy, you have no business putting glitter on your face. Illumination is the look you want to achieve.

Highlighters come in a variety of colors, but it's best to choose one that's neutral and close to your skin tone. You don't want to look like a clown for your nuptials, unless of course you're having a circus-themed wedding! To brighten up your peepers, sweep the highlighter over your brow bone and inner corners of your eyes. Next, apply it from the bridge to the tip of your nose, and at the top of your cheekbones above your blush. Blend with a brush. For luscious lips, apply the highlighter to the Cupid's bow before you sweep on your lipstick. You'll be amazed at how gorgeous and ravishing this will make your mouth look!

As with any hair or makeup routine pertaining to your wedding day, do a trial run with the highlighter several weeks before the big event to ensure you like the color and application, and don't have a reaction to the newest cosmetic in your beauty arsenal. Get illuminated!

Falsies

...as in false eyelashes! What better time to glam up your eyes than on your wedding day? Very few women sport false eyelashes on a regular basis, which makes wearing them to get hitched just that more special. If you've been blessed with naturally long lush lashes, then congratulations, you can skip this step. But for most of us, the daily abuse of mascara, and mascara removal, can leave our lashes looking a little less than lovely. Pumping up your peepers with falsies will cause your man to swoon at the altar. And who doesn't want to make her guy breathless on the big day?

There are several types of lashes at your disposal. Some are applied to the lash line in clusters for maximum control of placement and effect. Others are strips that create a more uniform appearance. To see if you like the way you look in these lash enhancers, test drive a variety of them several weeks before your nuptials. Follow the packages' instructions for gluing your lashes on, then once the glue has dried, curl your natural lashes and the new additions together to blend them. Save mascara and eyeliner application until after you have your falsies right where you want them. Once you single out a favorite brand, length, and style of lashes, bring a package of them with you when you go for the pre-wedding trial run with your makeup artist. This will allow your pro to know exactly how you want your lashes to look when having your face made up on your wedding day.

It's the truth! Falsies can make you look fabulous!

Hair Extensions for the Big Day

Do you wish you had longer fuller hair to complete the fairy tale look that you're trying to achieve on your wedding day? Have you considered clip-in hair extensions? These beauties, made of real human hair, can make your locks look lush and natural for your nuptials. They come in a wide range of colors and the perfect shade exists to blend in with your own hair. Hot styling tools can be used on these extensions and they can even be dyed. Temporary clip-in hair extensions can make a world of difference in your appearance and I highly recommend them. Proper care of your extensions is crucial in prolonging their life and looks. Treating them gently is key. You must remember that any hair lost from your extensions will not regrow as it would from your own scalp. Remove them daily and use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner every second or third day. Lightly trimming the split ends caused by wear and tear is also paramount. If you choose to use any hot styling tools on your extensions, utilize a heat protectant beforehand. With proper care, your extensions, and the gorgeous head of hair they give you, can last for years!

Pearly Whites

One thing many brides neglect to consider is the health and appearance of their teeth. And why not? When your busy dreaming about wedding gowns and honeymoon destinations, who wants to think about dental hygiene? Having bright clean teeth for your wedding day is crucial for several reasons. One, you're going to be forever immortalized in hundreds of photos. Also, you'll likely be wearing white or a variation thereof, and the bright fabric can make your teeth appear yellow by contrast. Keep in mind that the color of lipstick you choose to wear can also make your teeth look less-than-pearly. Consult with your professional make-up artist who can recommend the best shade for a bright smile.

So, what should you do to achieve those pearly whites for your wedding day? Several months before the big event, go to your dentist for a full check-up. She'll perform x-rays to see if you need any major dental work, which should be performed sooner rather than later. You don't want to neglect a cavity and end up needing an emergency root canal several days before you get married! While you're there, ask the doctor about whitening your ivories. This can be performed in a single treatment at the dental office or at home over several weeks with over-the-counter preparations. Also, start flossing now. Don't wait to establish this healthy habit a week before you tie the knot. For those unused to flossing, it can cause your gums to swell and bleed until they become accustomed to the stimulation.

On your actual wedding day, brush and floss your teeth several times before having your make-up applied. After that perfect shade of lipstick has been swept over your lips, use this simple trick to prevent it from ending up on your teeth. Place your clean finger in your mouth, close your lips around it, and remove. Any color on your finger probably would have ended up on your teeth. Don't be afraid to discreetly consult a mirror or ask your betrothed to check your teeth every now and then throughout the day to make sure they are immaculate. After all, you won't be able to wipe the smile off of your face on this, the happiest day of your life!

Attend to your Decolletage

Every bride wants to look as gorgeous as possible for the special event. You'll practically spend days choosing your dress, shoes, and jewelry. For hours before you walk down the aisle, your face will be made up and your hair perfectly coiffed. From head to toe you'll be the picture of beauty and the personification of love. But did you remember your decolletage? This is one of the most neglected parts of a woman's body. Also, bronzing powder can be lightly and strategically swept over your skin. Consult your make-up artist for his or her expertise on how and what to use to get your glow.

Now that your glow has been established, it's time for the shimmer! You can purchase luminescent lotions or powders to give you a subtle sheen. Lipstick With Staying Power

If there's any occasion when you should get your lipstick just right, it's on your wedding day. Not only should you have the perfect shade for your complexion and gown, but your lipstick needs to have staying power. Consult your professional make-up artist to choose the perfect shade when you go for your trial session. Make sure you carefully hold your dress up to your face once it's made up to be sure you're happy with the lipstick color against the fabric of your gown. Now that you've narrowed down the ideal shade, simply follow a few simple instructions for maintaining a perfect pout through a day full of having your picture taken, eating wedding cake, and of course, all that kissing you'll be doing with your new Mister!

Before you get your make-up done on the big day, gently exfoliate your lips with a mixture of olive oil and sugar. Rinse thoroughly. Your pro will line your lips and fill them in with a neutral liner, or one that closely matches your chosen lipstick shade. Next, your lipstick will be applied with a brush. Blot your lips on a tissue and have a second coat reapplied. If you wish, have some gold or transparent gloss applied over your lipstick. Place your clean finger in your mouth, close, and remove finger to eliminate any lipstick that may have otherwise ended up on your teeth. Voila! Those lips are going nowhere. Of course, it's still wise to keep your lipstick and a mirror at hand throughout the day for touch-ups. Smile!

Waxing Before the Wedding

Men are supposed to be hairy beasts. Women? Not so much! Unfortunately, women do have plenty of unwanted facial hair to contend with and waxing is a great way to remove it. However, it's wise to be strategic when scheduling your pre-wedding appointment to get waxed. Schedule it way before you get hitched and you'll be sprouting fuzz left and right as you walk down the aisle. Schedule it too close to your nuptuals, and you may have to deal with some rather unpleasant side effects. These side effects can be so brutal, they'll make you wish you kept your mustache!

There really is only one positive result of waxing...clean, hairless skin. The negative results can include bumps, bruising, skin removal, blemishes, unsightly ingrown hairs, redness, and swelling. It's crucial to gently exfoliate the skin the day before you get waxed and only allow wax to be applied to clean skin. For best results, have several waxing appointments long before your wedding date to see how your skin reacts to this method of facial hair removal. If your skin is too sensitive for waxing, there are plenty of other options, including bleaching and depilatories. These procedures can have their own bothersome side effects, so test out several methods of hair removal before settling on one that works for you.

Yes, a facial may feel wonderful while you're having it done, and yes, they're great for your skin in the long run, but they can also result in some unwanted side effects that can prove disastrous for a bride. So, what are these side effects and how can you avoid them if you really want to have a pre-wedding facial?

If your skin's not accustomed to the stimulation and deep-pore cleansing of a facial, your face can break out. Badly. This happens because during a facial, toxins and impurities are released and oil production in your skin is stimulated. The result can be a face full of unsightly blemishes. Not ideal for wedding photos! Another unpleasant outcome that can result is an allergic reaction to one or more of the products used during the facial. This is especially common for those with sensitive skin. A good esthetician will take every possible precaution to prevent either of these results from occurring. If you absolutely long to have a pre-wedding facial, do so at least two weeks prior to the big day.

The Perfect Smokey Eyes

If you haven't heard of the "smokey eye", you must be living under a rock! This timeless, sultry, dramatic look will turn heads and give you a boost of confidence when you rock it, especially on your wedding day. Despite the name, you do not have to use gray or black shadow and liner to achieve a smokey eye, though both colors do an outstanding job in achieving the look. You can use purples, browns, coppers, dark blues and greens, or even brighter colors. The sky's the limit, but be sure to maintain a certain level of taste so you don't end up looking tacky.

First, apply an eye shadow base from your lash line to your brow line. Use concealer under your eye to mask any dark circles. Use your chosen shade of liner as closely to the lash line as possible on both the top and bottom of your eyes and smudge. Next, use the darkest shade of your chosen eye shadow color and apply on entire upper lid and under lower lashes. Working upward from the darkest color on your lid, use a lighter shade of your chosen color and blend, blend, blend. In doing so, you'll achieve a gradient effect. Finish off with a few coats of mascara on your curled lashes. Voila! Instant glamour! Ask your professional make-up artist to try a couple variations of the smokey eye during your trial session to see if the look is right for your wedding day.

There is a Universal Blush Color

Did you know there's a universally flattering shade of blush? Is it possible that just one particular color can look great on any woman despite her skin tone? The answer is yes! So, what is this magical hue? Rosey pink. The reason this color can make any blushing bride beautiful is because, more than any other color, it mimics the natural glow your cheeks display when blushing due to embarrassment, or flattery, or being in love! But don't count on the natural flush you'll get on your face when you first spot your waiting groom; sweep some rosey pink blush across your cheeks for a pretty, finished look.

One big mistake many women are guilty of is buying a color of blush they think is pretty, regardless of how it'll look against their skin tone. Sure, sparkly peach is lovely, and who doesn't love a vibrant purple? But putting either of these shades on the wrong face is a faux pas. If you tend to reach for your favorite color of blush at the store, and then regret it once you see in on your face, play it safe and go for rosey pink. Maybe you hate pink as a color, but you don't hate looking gorgeous, right? Forget about your palette preference and be pretty in pink!

Moisturize!

The most important thing you can do for your skin is to keep it moisturized. This is especially crucial during the cooler months. The crisp air of autumn and winter can sap the skin of moisture, leaving it dry and flaky. Putting make-up on dry, flaky skin can be a recipe for disaster. Not only that, but dry skin looks older and shows every fine line and wrinkle. To be the stunning bride you always envisioned yourself to be, it's crucial to take excellent care of your skin.

Not all moisturizers are created equal. Finding a suitable skin cream depends a lot on the quality of the product itself, as well as your skin type. For oily skin, it's imperative to buy an oil-free product. If you're acne prone, a lotion containing salicylic acid is recommended. For sensitive skin, you may need to test drive several brands of moisturizer before you settle on one that doesn't irritate your complexion. Dry skin requires a product with extra emollients. A visit to the dermatologist may be in order if you're unable to sort your skin issues out on your own. Don't wait until right before you get married if you're having concerns. Of course you'll be glowing from the inside out on your wedding day, but it can't hurt to have beautiful, moisturized skin as well!

Jessica called me one afternoon because she heard that I was
doing a hair and makeup reality show and she thought it would be a great opportunity to be on TV! She said 'You are only young once and get married once, so why not capture it on TV!" I loved how she saw everything as an opportunity and wanted to make the experience of getting married a fun one.
I was so excited to meet her and when I did, I was even more excited to be a part of her special day. She was so sweet and down to earth and oh so beautiful. She has this natural beauty that is so organic and raw. Her hair is very curly and she has the cutest freckles. When she sat in my chair, I knew that I didn't want to change her style and only wanted to bring out the natural beauty that she is.
With her hair, I smoothed out her natural curl and after several pieces of extensions I recurled it with my favorite GHD iron. With her makeup, I went pretty natural but I couldn't help myself by enhancing her beautiful green eyes with lots and lots of individual lashes. Since the couple was getting married outdoors, I thought this down to earth look suited her and the occasion perfectly.
The wedding was at a beautiful winery in Temecula. My boyfriend and I actually took the opportunity to make this a small getaway and go wine tasting and even a hot air balloon ride! It was a lovely weekend!
Jessica has come to see me twice for her "Trash the Dress" photos and video and her and I became friends. She has a beautiful soul and reminds me how blessed I am to meet people like her and be a part of their most special day. Thank you Jess, you remind me why I love what I do so much!

Trials

Summer is the busiest time for weddings and with that, trials are necessary. A trial (some people call it a test, preview or a consultation) is an appointment where the artist meets with the bride to 'try' out the look or several looks for the wedding day. This meeting is VERY important and I do not suggest skipping it. This is your time to nail down the look you have always been dreaming about for your wedding.

When Should I Do the Trial?
Some ladies choose to book and then meet for a trial and others book only after meeting with the artist. If you are going to book before meeting the artist, make sure you are absolutely confidant in their work and have read enough good reviews from other brides.

How Far in Advance?
A great artist who works on weddings usually gets booked pretty far in advance (especially in the wedding months April-November). So, I recommend that if you find someone who's work you love... don't wait and set up an appointment.

Hair - I always recommend that you bring photos of the type of hairstyles you have in mind. The more pictures, the better! Also, if you have your veil or any accessories, bring those too!

Makeup -You should also bring photos of the type of looks you have in mind, or just the type of makeup you really like regardless of ethnicity, or skin tone. If you are a makeup wearer, bring some photos of yourself with makeup on.

Be Honest!!!!
A trial is your opportunity to communicate everything, so don't sit back... be honest with the artist about what you like and don't like. The artist cannot read your mind (unless she/he is psychic) so talk, talk and talk some more! The worst thing is if you walk out hating how you look and not saying a word. And if the artist has an ego and doesn't take your coaching... then I recommend working with someone else.

Take Pictures
Take as many pictures as possible in as many different lights as possible. Inside, outside, with flash and without. Not only do you want to look flawless in person, you want to make sure the makeup and hair translates well in pictures and video. Your photos will last a lifetime, so make sure you will look perfect and don't have surprises on the wedding day. Also, it helps the artist to remember what look you decide on and how to recreate it.

Mia

I have been meaning to post these photos for while now..but only got to it now when the wedding craziness has slowed down.
Meet Mia. She got married on August 1st, 2009. She came to meet with me in March and we instantly connected.
On the wedding day, I did Mia's hair and makeup and had a few assistants help me with the rest of the bridal party. Everyone looked stunning! Mia's hairstyle was very modern, yet classy. It was great for dancing and the heat. We decorated with fresh orchids to make it look feminine.
For Mia's makeup, she wanted a natural look. Since she doesn't wear makeup on a regular basis, I wanted to make sure she felt comfortable and like herself...just prettier! So, I used light and medium brown tones on her eyes with a winged eyeliner. Then I used individual lashes to open up the eyes and give a more dramatic effect. Of course, I airbrushed the foundation and blush. For the lips, I went with a soft peachy-pink tone that really complimented her beautiful complexion.
Mia was so easy to work with and was so great that I felt re-energized for the whole day (even after working for since 5 am until 3pm without a break!)

Winter Beauty Dilemma: Dry Skin

Too many brides-to- be come to me expecting a miracle, but unfortunately if your skin is dry and flaky, it is very hard to make even the greatest foundation look good.

If you are feeling drier during the the cold months of winter, it is important to keep your skin hydrated and your regular moisturizer might not do the trick! Read the labels carefully. Keep in mind that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a rosy glow. Cetaphil (a nonirritant and fragrance-free line that’s dermatologist-approved) has a number of products for every skin care need and can be found at your local drugstore. FYI: Don’t forget your hands! Winter brides should take special care to fight dry hands and fingers. Most likely, this is one part of your body that will be heavily photographed on your wedding day. Treat yourself to a paraffin wrap at your local salon or spa a day or two before your wedding to ensure that your fingers are as soft as velvet.

Winter Beauty Dilemma: Chapped Lips

It’s hard to kiss your groom if your lips feels like sandpaper, not to mention that lipstick won't help.Start early and moisturize your pucker with products that have a combination of proven moisturizers like Vitamin E, aloe, shea butter, and beeswax. The Body Shop’s Lip Butter line of lip balm contains many of these ingredients, is specialized for specific skin types, and costs under $10.

Winter Beauty Dilemma: Flyaways and Staticky Hair

Dry, cold air sucks the moisture out of your hair. If you want to avoid having your hair stand on end when you walk down the aisle (literally), start using a deep conditioner every time you wash it. If your hair is naturally dry and coarse, opt for a leave-in conditioning treatment. Make sure you stay away from hair care products that list alcohol as one of the main ingredients -- alcohol is a drying agent and can make the situation worse. Specialized hair care lines like PHYTO include many natural conditioning ingredients to improve the quality of your hair. If you’re still concerned about flyaways on your wedding day, store a few dryer sheets in your purse and gently smooth one over your hair prior to your wedding photos.

Friends Wedding

This weekend was the wedding of one of my dear friends, Tanya. Tanya and I go way back...17 years to be exact! And this Sunday, I saw her get married to the love of her life, Ben.
It's so special for me to make my friends feel and look beautiful. I get the privilege of not only making up all of the girls, but to laugh and cry with everyone and be a part of the day. And since I went to their beautiful wedding, I got to see the end result and how beautiful and happy she was throughout the night.
Tanya has the most beautiful green eyes...like a cat! I wanted to make her eyes stand out from mile away without making them too dark. So, I used one of my favorite pigments from MAC called 'Tan". I also accentuated her crease with 'swiss chocolate' from MAC. I put a lot of individual eyelashes on her and finished it off with lots of black mascara from YSL.
Tanya has a really beautiful skintone that I also wanted to accentuate. I used a smashbox dual luminizing primer on her cheeks to give her a nice glow in the light. It really makes a difference on pictures. And of course, I airbrushed her with the Dinair foundation. Her skin looked absolutely flawless and even when I wanted to touch her up at the party...she was still looking as fresh as she did when I did her makeup!
I hope to be a part of many more of my friends weddings!!!

Choosing a Veil

Matching your veil to your desired wedding-day hairstyle isn't difficult; there's a beautiful look for every style.

All Swept Up

The formal updo, with its clean lines and timeless elegance, is a favorite wedding day look and works well with a variety of veils. If you've got your heart set on an updo, remember:

When choosing a hairstyle and veil, take your face shape into account. If you have a rounder face, sleeker styles with longer veils will look best on you. Fuller styles and veils flatter narrow faces. Talented stylists can adapt most styles to suit the shape of your face.
Veils that hang longer than your waist, like the fingertip, chapel and ballet styles, are heavy. Tighter styles hold up better under all that tulle, so if you are wearing a long veil, choose a coif with less volume up top. A chignon, where the hair is gathered into a roll at the nape of the neck, is a good bet. Another option is the Juliet topknot, where the hair is twisted into a tight coil at the top of the head.
Do you love the drama of intricate updos, with lengths of hair woven into an elaborate creation on the crown of your head? This style CAN work with a longer, heavier veil -- instead of covering your hair with the veil, consider piling your hair on TOP of your veil. The veil will cascade down your back, adding romance and sweetness to your style.
The French twist, where the hair is gathered into a low pony tail and then swept into a roll along the back of the head, is a classic and versatile look. Bride s who choose the French twist are in luck -- this style looks gorgeous both with long veils and with shorter styles, from the floor length veils to the wispy flyaways, which are only about a foot long.

Letting Loose

If you've decided to leave your long locks down for that romantic look, remember that tousled shouldn't mean tangled. Be sure to set your hair and use either hairspray or gel to give it structure and prevent flyaways. Hair left down can work with most any length of veil, but the rule of thumb is that your veil should always be longer than your hair so you don't look messy.

Also remember that the longest veils may be too heavy for hairstyles with lots of body, so try a sleek look if you're wearing a long veil.

Updo or Up Don't?

A good compromise between the sweetness of hair left down and the elegance of updos is any of several in-between styles, where the hair from your crown is swept back and the rest of your

hair is left down. Whether you gather the hair from your crown into a bun, or pull the top layer back with twinkling combs, an in-between style is a lovely compromise in the great debate between up and down. And if you are still undecided, remember that more and more brides are
wearing an updo to their ceremony and taking their hair down for the reception.

Chic Short Cuts

Styling is key for brides with short hair. Shorter styles have a tendency to look messy, so whether you iron it, dress it, or slick it back, make sure that you win the fight against bed head. One look we love for cropped cuts: Tiny crystal-tipped hairpins strategically placed throughout the hair to add sparkle.

Brides with short hair look especially lovely with short veils. Picture a tuft of snowy white tulle fluttering from the crown of your head. But don't think a smaller veil is your only option -- cascading veils can look fabulous, too. Dress your hair up with a tiara or halo of flowers, and you'll be gorgeous in a veil of any length.

Topping It Off

Tiaras are still the hottest accessory for bridal hairstyles, but combs, clips, barrettes, jeweled hair sticks, and hairpins are popular as well. All accessories can look great with a variety of hairstyles and veils, but remember to use them sparingly. Too many twinkles can distract from your most beautiful feature -- your face!
